India's Opposition Leader L K Advani
feels and wants NRIs, PIOs to be called
Bharatvanshi
L.K. Advani
India's Opposition Leader L K Advani while addressing a ceremony
to mark the 30th anniversary of Anter-Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad
an NGO at New Delhi on Sunday reportedly said he feels and wants
NRIs and PIOs who are living anywhere in the world to be called
Bharatvanshi, news reports said.
Reportedly Opposition Leader Advani said late Dr. L M Singhvi,
who headed a committee to look into the issue of PIOs and NRIs
during the NDA rule had coined the term.
Advani reportedly said PIOs, NRIs, who are living anywhere in
the world will have to work together to make India a front-line
nation in the 21st century.
The term NRI and PIO sound very technical and bureaucratic....it
has a limited meaning, reportedly said Advani.
NRIs and PIOs are Bharatvanshi like us ....people who live in
India. Bharatvanshi reflected the true discription of people with
Indian roots settled abroad.
The BJP leader Advani whose family migrated from Karachi, claimed
that the true potential of a person comes out when he is forcibly
displaced.
Had people not been displaced during the partition of the country,
they would not have been so successful today, reportedly said
advani.
Forcible displacement from roots brings out the true potential
of person which helps him reach the top, he observed, news reports
said.

India, its people and Global Indian society Day by Day
By Vallabh Kaviraj in London
India is the glorious ancient land which has kept the heritage
and the rich Indian culture alive and flourishing always.
India is many-but it is a great glorious one nation where more
than a billion people have their different languages, religions,
traditions and customs, though culturally they are one people,
have lived together with Indianness for centuries, and that is
the beauty of this glorious country in the world today.
However, it needs to be said, India had suffered enough for several
centuries because of various foreign invasions in different periods
and they (the foreign rulers) had robbed the coutry's wealth as
well as they politically had broken the paramount India into regions
and also created a groupism and castes to divide the Indian society
at large for socio-economic reasons, which unfortunately created
disturbing social problems with a communal element and now India
is to put up with such problems.
At last, Mahatma Gandhiji with his ideal philosophical and political
approach he had waken up the public at large and won the battle
without bloodshed, achieved a success in gaining India's Independece
in 1947 and opened up a new era for India.
But the communal element had made India to be divided and narrowmindedly
the same Indian society created a division and India the one nation
had been partitioned unnecessarily as Pakistan and India.
It was not easy to build up new India from a scretch with a clean
slate, however, India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal
Nehru had made a great success in building up the country and
marched on to reach to a point to become the largest democracy
in the world and that has happened.
Today, India has got a considerable resources, manpower, skills
and became an emerging market for the globalised world.
Also the country has got a considerable defence strength and holding
the balance of power in South Asia today. And marching on for
a world peace and prosperity.
However, India is being noticed in every corner of the world where
more than 20 million overseas Indians have made a considerable
success in their chosen fields, contributing not only to the economy
of a country in which they live but also contribute to India which
is a land of their origin. And also promote the rich Indian culture
taking India with them. They are the ambassadors of India today.
But they feel, India and Indian people in India do not see that
way. There is a gap between the Global Indian Society and India
and Indian people, especially Indian politicians who want something
from the Global Indian society but not to accept as their own
people by granting a dual citizenship.
However, it needs to be said that late Indian leaders; Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru, Morarji Desai, Mrs Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi
and several others helped overseas Indians as brethren whenever
and whereever they were in difficulties, and that is a difference
the Global Indian Society sees today.
It is unnecessary to organise Mela for overseas Indians and unnecessary
to create gimmicks for awards to be presented to academias and
politicians who are minority among 20 million overseas Indians,
some of the longstanding overseas Indians contributed considerably
already for years in their own way selflessly with a great feeling
for the land of origin they love, and the gimmick of such kind
of awards would not bother to majority who always follow their
true path.
What it seems that the Mela was a kind of a public relations excercise,
there is a huge costs involed and these costs could be invested
for the poor in India, said critics.
It seems that India needed overseas Indians more than Global Indian
Society needs India.
However, Global Indians know well enough how to promote rich Indian
culture abroad and also they are preparing their children to follow
their path culturally and taking them often to visit the land
of their origin to educate them of their grassroots.
But what global Indians want is the better understanding of Indian
people in India towards the global Indian society, especially
from Indian politicians, that is the feeling expressed generally
within the Global Indian Society today.
