EU plans to create rapid reaction border guard teams
to deal with immigration crises
The European Commission, reportedly unveiled a plan to create
rapid reaction teams of border guards to deal with European Union
immigration crises.
Reportedly the teams would be assembled by the EU boarder security
agency, Frontex, from lists of experts in member states.
The plan would reportedly help the EU respond to appeals for assistance,
such as Spain's request in May, for help dealing with migrants
in the Canary Islands.
All the boarder guards would wear their own national uniforms
with an armband identifying them as members of a joint EU rapid
reaction team- but would be temporarily under the control of the
host state.
The Commission reportedly approved on Wednesday, a list of priority
policies to tackle immigrants, including a new system for registering
the arrival and departure of non-EU citizens visiting the EU,
making it easier to varify whether someone has overstayed on his
or her visa.
Reportedly the Commission also says it will prioritise action
against illegal trafficking and further deals with third countries
to allow migrants to be returned to their point of departure for
the EU, media reports said.

French MPs backing to controversial new immigration
Bill in French Parliament
French MPs reportedly have given a strong backing to a new controversial
immigration Bill in French parliament on Wednesday, and it will
make more difficult for foreign unskill workers to settle in France,
news reported.
Reportedly the Bill, which offers renewable residence permit to
highly skilled workers from outside EU, was passed by 367 votes
to 164.
The new controversial immigration Bill which is going through
parliament reportedly also requires foreign immigrants to sign
a contract agreeing to learn French and to respect the principles
of the French Republic, making harder for immigrants to bring
their families over to join them in the country.
A number of multi racial organisations reportedly opposed to the
controversial immigration Bill, news reports said.
The Bill is expected to go to the Senate in June, media reports
said.

Malaysia reeling under acute shortage of labour
and seeking to hire workers from South Asian countries
Malaysia reportedly reeling under an acute shortage of labour
and said it could hire at least 400,000 workers from South Asian
countries like India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Nepal to
ease the urgent crisis faced by several sectors after the exodus
of illegal foreign workers earlier this month.
Reportedly Human Resources Minister Fong Chan Onn said workers
from South Asian countries would serve in specific sectors which
urgently required manpower, news reported.

UK wants immigration control
plans to be introduced
UK Home Secretary Charles Clarke wants to introduce a points plans
system for economic migrants and increase deportations of failed
asylum seekers.
New controls on economic migrants and tighter border patrols will
be part of government plans unveiled on Monday.
The Tories and the Lib Dems say the plans would not produce an
efficient system.

Commonwealth and Commonwealth Citizenship
-is the Commonwealth playing enough role
for its peoples?
Nowadays, the Commonwealth is known as the peoples' Commonwealth
which had been born out of the British Empire.
All citizens of the Commonwealth, who are the product of the British
Empire, had believed greatly in the Commonwealth because Commonwealth
Citizenship was well recognised in 1950s.
But today, the Commonwealth Citizenship seems to be fading away
and nobody seems to care about it-why is it happening? A question
remains.
On the other hand, a question about the Britishness is being raised
in Britain, because Britain's political masters seem to think
that the Britishness should be imposed upon if anyone wants to
become a British citizen.
But a question remains-is it a right way to promote the Britishness?
Historically, the Britishness had been followed up by nationals
of the Commonwealth countries, believing the oldest democracy
Britain as the head of the Commonwealth where they could have
opportunities to enjoy fundamental rights as the Commonwealth
citizens.
However, the 54 Commonwealth leaders meet every two years called
CHOGM to discuss matters of common interest and progress initiatives
to benefit the Commonwealth member countries. But they seem to
forget to discuss the most concerning issue of the Commonwealth
Citizenship, which is necessary to be discussed in the globalised
world, therefore many commonwealth citizens are raising a question-is
the Commonwealth playing enough role for its citizens?
